Fuel Burn Calculator

Work out the hourly fuel burn rate from fuel used over a known time.

Inputs

units
min

Result

Fuel burn rate

60units/hr

90 units over 1:30

Per minute

1units/min

Burn rate 60 units/hr (1 per min)

Formula

Ref
  • Burn per hour = (fuel used ÷ minutes) × 60
  • Burn per minute = fuel used ÷ minutes

Worked example

Ref

Used 90 units over 1 hour 30 minutes.

  1. 1.Time = 90 minutes.
  2. 2.Rate = (90 ÷ 90) × 60 = 60 units/hr.

Fuel burn rate = 60 units/hr.

How it works

Ref

Working out the actual hourly burn from a known quantity of fuel over a known time lets you check the aircraft against its book figures and refine your planning burn. It's the inverse of fuel planning — measure what you used, get the rate.

DGCA student tip

Exam

Always convert time to a consistent unit first. A common exam slip is dividing by hours when the time is given in minutes (or vice-versa) — 90 units in 90 minutes is 60/hr, not 90/hr.

Common mistakes

Watch
  • Dividing by minutes but reporting the answer as per hour without ×60.
  • Mixing the fuel unit between measurement and planning.
  • Ignoring that climb burn is higher than cruise burn.
